Snacking is
healthy...if you do it RIGHT. Our body needs
nutrients
to function properly. In theory, the three basic
meals of the day should provide us with the all
nutrients we need. But when we load ourselves with
snacks, sweets, & soda between meals, they may
suppress our appetite, displace full
balanced meals, and deny us of our daily
nutrient needs. We recommend:
- Snack in moderation. Snacking per se is okay,
especially to ward-off hunger pangs in-between
meals. Just don’t overdo it!
- Read the labels. Be aware of your food
and calorie intake in relation to your
lifestyle. Understand what the essential nutrients
are for proper nutrition.
- Not all snacks are created equal. Many snacks
taste good but are little beyond carbohydrates,
oil, & salt. They provide “empty calories”,
i.e., calories that lack the vitamins
& minerals needed to metabolize them.
